5 Fall Flavours Better than Pumpkin Spice

image

Autumn. The time of year when leaves change into insta-worthy pics, boots, scarves, and hats come out to play, and the hordes of basics start screaming “PSL IS BACK!”. Yes, pumpkin spice latte, or PSL, has plagued the nation with it’s nasty, fake gloop. Everyone knows that there is no actual pumpkin in pumpkin spice, but why does that not stop the millions from maybe, just going to an actual coffeeshop instead of one that loads up the drinks with sugar, fat, and preservatives? I may not know the answer to that, but what I DO know are alternatives to achieve that fall-tasting flavour without the chemicals.

Here are my top five autumn flavours and recipies, which are better than any PSL.

1. Cinammon

Quite an obvious choice, but not utilized to its full potential most of the time. Ditch the Cinnabon and try the Norwegian kanelsnurrer, its lighter in flavour, fat, and sugar intake.

2. Nutella

Fun Fact: I know a girl who during exams eats at LEAST six bottles of this stuff. Its just that comforting. Instead of doing that, you could just use this recipe for braided Nutella bread, a good treat or morning cake!

3. Ginger

Not just for cool summer salads and dishes. This root is an incredible complement to warm drinks, especially hot toddys!

4. Cardamom

Cardamom is cinammon’s cool cousin. It has a bit more of a bite but its a good switch if you’re over cinnamon.

5. Actual Pumpkin

Roast it, fry it, bake it, even eat it raw. Get some actual pumpkin in your pumpkin-flavoured food & drinks.

Whatever you end up doing, don’t give in to the glooply-glop that is PSL. Eat natural as possible because when you eat well, you live well.
